Call some insurance agents in your area and ask about renters insurance. This applies to you even if you live in a dorm. You may even be covered by your parent's homeowner's insurance, have them check with their agent. With some policies college students are covered if they live in student housing.
If you're not covered by their insurance, I recommend you get renter's insurance. It's usually very cheap. I recommend you use the same company your parents have, you'll probably get a better rate. Just don't call State Farm. They have the worst reputation in the business for not paying on claims. This info came to me from an insurance adjuster who worked for them for 20 years.
